A Word from Laura: You Can Still Make a Difference
Western friends,
In the Wednesday morning coffee and conversation following the election, our group agreed that one thing we could be certain of was that these days – maybe weeks – ahead are uncertain for our nation. In this time when it’s hard to figure out how to make a difference on our national scene, there are still ways to make a faith-filled difference through Western! You’re invited to use the links below, recommended by different members of Western’s faith community. Choose at least three!
1. COMMIT YOUR PLEDGE knowing that you are investing in your faith community for another year
2. BE A FRIEND to a member of the Western community by emailing, mailing or texting a message; use our on-line Church Community Builder platform to find their contact info!
3. SING FOR JOY with Western’s music ministry by voting here for your favorite Christmas carols. (We’ll do this for the next three weeks, singing the top vote-getters during Advent and Christmas).
4. SUPPORT RACIAL JUSTICE by choosing one resource from our antiracism group.
5. STAND WITH IMMIGRANTS through your support of Sanctuary DMV (scroll down in Western’s giving options)
6. EMPOWER WOMEN through Calvary Women’s Services’ urgent needs wish list.
7. FEED THE HUNGRY through Miriam’s Kitchen’s donation page.
8. ADVOCATE FOR LGBTQ+ RIGHTS in the church and beyond by supporting More Light Presbyterians
9. SHOW GRATITUDE to all who service our church with an email to our church’s staff
10. SEEK PEACE that reflects both mindfulness and activism through the work of the Center for Action and Contemplation (ecumenical), angel Kyodo Williams (Buddhist), or Rhonda V. Magee (attorney who brings mindfulness to antiracism work)
In these days and weeks ahead, let us commit to remaining in prayer and to connecting with each other, trusting that God is at work in us and in our work.
Blessings for all that lies ahead,
Laura
