Session Notes: March 2025

Greetings all! I am Alec Resurreccion, one of the new members of the Session. I will be taking up the mantle for delivering the Session message to the congregation. Once a month, the Session meets up to discuss the administrative affairs and the purpose-driven future of the church. However, we also reflect on our own Christian development, and will do so with greater intention to lead the church in these perilous yet unknown times. We will continue to strengthen ourselves as we ponder our relationship with Church of the Pilgrims and navigate the challenges posed by today's sociopolitical and economic landscape.

In the meantime, here is a brief report of the March meeting. Starting in April, the Session will meet on the second Monday of each month, previously the second Tuesday of each month. As a reminder, these meetings are open to the congregation and conducted in-person and on Zoom.

Next, there will be a survey instituted by Presbyterian Church (USA) (PCUSA) researching church behavior since the COVID-19 pandemic. This survey will be distributed via a link in an upcoming newsletter. Our church has been invited to participate in the survey. Please note that this survey shouldn't take too long to complete, but it is optional.

Several elders attended a training hosted by the National Capital Presbytery (NCP), which included sessions on hospitality and a safe church environment. The lessons learned during these sessions will be shared with the Deacons.

Western Presbyterian Church has invited the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington to perform at the church for one of their concerts for their World Pride celebration series. The concert will take place at Western on Saturday, May 31, at 2pm. Please look forward to more information as that date gets closer.

Finally, following up from the Session's January meeting, the elders discussed five priorities for the church: (1) Spiritual Formation, (2) Hospitality, (3) Community Building, (4) Deepening Mission, and (5) Engaging with Church of the Pilgrims. The elders shared several church efforts over the past few months that worked towards these priorities, including meetings for Christian Formation and Mission, Deacons and other group activities, the previously mentioned NCP training, and gatherings with members of Pilgrims. The Session will continue to reflect upon these priorities as we continue through the Lenten season.

Thank you all for reading this (admittedly long) note from the Session! And if you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out to any of us on the Session.

-Alec Resurreccion, Elder, Class of 2027
