Free Minds Write Night
A gift of $3000 was made to Free Minds Write Night and Book Club. Western Presbyterian Church has supported Free Minds for a number of years by hosting Write Night on an every other month basis. It’s a time for community volunteers to gather alongside Free Minds Poet Ambassadors home from prison to provide feedback on the writing of Book Club members still incarcerated. Western’s financial gift in 2019 has helped the organization expand its Jail Book Club to incarcerated women at the DC Jail. Frontera de Cristo
A gift of $2000 was made to Frontera de Cristo, a PCUSA mission that provides services to migrants along the Mexican border in Douglas, AZ and Agua Prieta, Sonora. A group of Westerners took a mission trip to the border in 2017 to witness first-hand the hardships faced by migrants and what Frontera de Cristo is doing to support their journey. Under new federal policy many more migrants are stranded on the Mexican border waiting to be processed for asylum. Western’s gift helped Frontera de Cristo’s network of social services meet additional needs for shelter and food and care in a time of increased strife and violence within the local cartel. http://fronteradecristo.org/
