A Word From David
Henri Nouwen once wrote that "to be grateful for the good things that happen in our lives is easy, but to be grateful for all of our lives - the good as well as the bad, the moments of joy as well as the moments of sorrow, the successes as well as the failures, the rewards as well as the rejections - that requires hard spiritual work."
Nouwen also observed that all authentic religious expression begins in gratitude. Saying “thank you” acknowledges that we are connected to others, and that we need one another to make it through.
I am grateful to Western Presbyterian for the opportunity to come alongside the community during this season of transition. I am particularly thankful for your grace in coming along for a few non-traditional moments of worship. Big thanks to everyone who helped put together the worship last Sunday in the Miriam’s Kitchen dining room! Thanks, also, for joining in the various conversations in other Sunday morning services.
We are better as church when we share the load, and we are all the stronger when we share thanks.
