Session Notes: October 2024

Your Session sat for its regular monthly meeting this week.

There’s a lot going on at Western.  You’ve probably felt it.  A case in point – about 50 of us gathered for our World Communion Sunday worship service, potluck and discussion.  That’s the most in-person attendance we’ve seen since Easter.

We signed off on a draft Memorandum of Understanding with Miriam’s Kitchen covering the talked-about church renovation project.  Among other benefits, this would (1) create more space in the church building for MK and permit them to centralize their growing staff, and (2) put Western on a strong and sustainable financial footing.

We’ve forwarded the MOU to the Presbytery, whose blessing is both required and expected.

You’ll read more about this elsewhere, but the Designated Pastor search process is picking up pace.  We've already begun Zoom interviews with three candidates from the first tranche of applicants.

Finally, please mark your calendar.  The Nominating Committee, headed by Elder Greta Morris, reported that it plans to have next year’s slate of officer candidates for your consideration on Sunday, November 17.
