A Word from Laura: We Were Made for This

The meme floated across my screen recently, probably church-related, but I don’t know the reference of “this.”

I’m discovering that “this” time and place is just what faith was made for.

If you’re reading this email, you’re on our church’s list. And if you’re on our church’s list, it means I’ve been praying for you this past week:

·         Praying for your health
·         Praying for your emotional well-being, particularly if you are caring for those who are sick or worried about what you’ll do for your children’s schooling this fall
·         Praying for your safety in the storm
·         Praying that your heart may be open in new ways to the work of anti-racism
·         Praying that you might discover God’s call to you to work for justice in these challenging times
·         Praying for what you’ve been carrying on your heart, that I couldn’t possibly imagine

This week’s scripture from Matthew 14 tells us that when Jesus was worried, Jesus prayed. We can presume it was for those in the crowd he had just tried to heal and feed, knowing that they all would continue to struggle.

What the disciples discovered, as he told them to help feed the crowds, as they worried while they waited for him in the storm, as they themselves cried out to God, is that they were made for just such a time.

For most of you, I don’t know exactly what your week has held, but I know that through the work of prayer, trusting that following Jesus still means recognizing that we are connected by a power much greater than our own, we were all made for this – this time and place, wherever we find ourselves.

Blessings for your own work of prayer this week. May you find that you were made for “this,”whatever God has in store. Join us for worship on Sunday, and know that you – your life, your loved ones, your call to join in God’s work – remain in my prayers.

Laura
