Postcard Training for Reclaim the Vote Campaign: August 16 after worship

Western’s Mission Ministry Team is sponsoring training, Sunday, August 16 after worship, by Reclaim Our Vote Campaign on how to write postcards to contact voters of color in key voter suppression states. These postcards ask voters to check their registration status, re-register and vote. This is a critical time for this work as states are now completing the purge of their registration rolls and the opportunity to re-register is now.

About 38 members watched the fill Suppressed: The Fight to Vote last Sunday after worship. It exposes rampant voter suppression which affected the outcome of the 2018 midterm election in Georgia and is a cautionary tale for 2020. The film has inspired many to want to protect what is considered a sacred right as well as a civil right. The ROV Campaign is a way to do that.

Training will be provided by Laura Farmer from the ROV campaign. You can join the training just by remaining in worship Zoom where Laura will join us. You will learn what’s required and how to get a postcard packet sent to your home. Cost of a packet is $9.00 and includes 30 postcards, a voter list, and instructions for completing postcards. If you want to get a preview of what’s entailed look at this short training video: Watch our short “Introduction to ROV Postcarding” Training Video

If you want to participate or learn more, join the training session this Sunday. Please RSVP to either Cindy Stevens (cward67515@gmail.com) or Betsy Carter (vanbets@starpower.net). We’d like to have a count of how many to expect.
