Remembering a Life Well Lived

Watching President Carter’s funeral I was struck once more by the man’s integrity. As so many attested, Jimmy Carter was essentially the same person in the statehouse, the White House, the church house, and his own house in Plains. In all those spaces he tried to live a life of faith.

Few of us will set foot in most of the places presidents walk, and I’ve yet to meet anyone whose funeral will be attended by heads of state and international media. But every one of us can live lives of faith with integrity.

There are trying times coming for our nation and our world, and challenges coming for our church, as well. It’s easy to hold faith when times are good, but it is essential to do so when they are not.

Whatever the coming days hold for us, together we can hold on to the faith that guided President Carter: do justice, love mercy, walk humbly with our God. Well done, good and faithful servant.
