Session Notes: June 2023

Your Session sat, by Zoom, for its regular monthly meeting this week. Rev. Dean McDonald, our summer supply pastor, moderated the meeting. Two important items led the agenda.

The first of these was a paper, prepared by Clerk Becky Koenig and Elder Ari Brose, on the implementation of the I-ACT (Intercultural and Antiracism Change Team) report and recommendations. The I-ACT team was term-limited and finished its assigned work this spring. Now it’s up to the Session – and the congregation – to bring their vision to pass.  Watch for more on this in the months to come.

Beginning last fall with adoption of this year’s budget, the Session began a process of discerning what is necessary to secure Western’s sustainability (both financial and congregational health). The next step is to recruit a “Building and Belonging” task force, along the lines of our creating the I-ACT team for our antiracism commitment. Again, watch for more about your opportunity to participate in this foundational undertaking.

Related to this, our recruitment of a new music ministry director and a digital communications ministry coordinator continues.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and enjoy your summer. Make a note that worship shifts to summer hours (10 am) beginning July 2nd.
