A Word from Dean: A Spiritual Growth Spurt

Dear Friends in Christ,

Last Sunday’s picnic was perfection – perfect weather, perfect menu, and perfect people all enlivened in the Spirit! Thanks to the Deacons and others who made it happen. Irene tells me that there were close to 70 people there enjoying each other’s company. You may see some of her pictures posted in the near future.

My husband, Jim, and I had several vacations planned before I took this supply position with you. This weekend we are visiting our Brooklyn family. Our granddaughter is a big fan of Broadway musicals, so for her Christmas present we got tickets to see “Sweeney Todd.” Our grandson is graduating from 8th grade, too. Going to NYC is always exciting.

Then from June 22 – July 5 our younger grandson who lives in Seattle will join us on a trip to Morocco. This is our fourth and final “grandchild trip” – at least for now. It should be an adventure.

You are in good hands, of course, with Jude Michaels preaching on the 11th , and Todd Sutton here on June 25 and July 2. A change of face, of preaching style, and hosting fellow National Capital Presbytery members is fun. I’m hopeful that many of our members who have exited the city for the summer will be tuning in to worship electronically.

Speaking of on-line, Session meets on the 13th by Zoom, starting at 7 p.m. I’m committed to concluding our business by 8:30. Long meetings on weeknights can get even the strongest person down. The Church is about up-building.

I’ve been reading Ephesians 4, and let me share a summary of v. 15: Speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, … as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.

My hope is that all of us will have a spiritual growth spurt this summer! Perhaps a reading of The Letter of Paul to the Ephesians would encourage that. Let me know if you do, I would enjoy discussing it with you.

Grace and peace,

Dean
