Your Giving: Addresses food scarcity in SE DC

The Mission Team has completed making gifts from Western’s benevolence budget.  Over the next weeks, these organizations and their good works will be highlighted in this space.  This week the spotlight is on gifts to two organizations addressing food scarcity in Southeast Washington, DC.

  • A gift of $1000 was made to Building Bridges over the River (BBAR) for BBAR farms and C.R.I.S.P.  BBAR Farms are urban farms and gardens in Ward 8.  They supply the BBAR Community Supported Agricultures (CSA) Program, known as C.R.I.S.P which stands for Community Raised Sourced and Inspired Produce.  https://bbardc.org/project/the-farms/

  • A gift of $1000 was made to DC Greens - - DC Greens uses the levers of food education, food access, and food policy to advance food justice in the nation’s capital.  One of DCGreens programs is Produce RX in which Doctors in D.C. write prescriptions for fresh fruits and vegetables that can be redeemed for free produce to help at-risk patients manage diet-related chronic illnesseshttps://www.dcgreens.org/produce-rx
